Long after the Havdalah candle burns down, the excitement of the night will continue. The Jewish Children's Museum, located in the heart of Crown Heights, will open its doors on Motzei Shabbos starting November 19. The museum will offer a special workshop where children get to create their own Havdalah candles. Children will get the chance to go step by step, starting with braiding the candles and ending with their own special packaging. Children's faces will shine as brightly as their candles when they experience the thrill of making and showing off their creations.
Along with the actual creation of the candles, the children will learn about the Jewish tradition of candle-weaving and explore the significance of the Havdalah ceremony. The end of Shabbos is also marked with nostalgic scents, and in the workshop children will be given the chance to craft their own bsamim which they will bring home to share with their family.
The museum will be open from on Motzei Shabbos, 6:30 to 10:00 and admission will be $10, with no additional cost for the Havdalah workshop. The main exhibits of the museum are located on the third floor, which contains a theme of time with exhibits that let visitors explore Jewish history. The fully interactive displays capture the attention of the children, while they explore Mitzvos and Minhagim, the Jewish life cycle and calendar year. The museum features the largest Havdalah candle and a miniature kosher supermarket where children get to play with interactive exhibits and test their knowledge on the basic rules of Kashrus. In the middle of the floor visitors are greeted by a giant talking tree which teaches about the relationship between humans and trees. Continuing on, children can crawl through the giant challah loaf, play on the exquisitely set Shabbos table, work one of Jerusalem's olive presses or play miniature golf through the stages of life.
So this Motzei Shabbos come explore the world of Yiddishkeit more in depth and have a fun and exciting time doing it.
