Shofar Factory
The Jewish Children’s Museum’s Shofar Factory gives children a chance to create their very own shofars for the Jewish New Year.
At the Jewish Children’s Museum, children use drills, saws, and sandpaper to prepare unworked ram’s horns into the traditional Shofar used during the Jewish New Year. Children and experts demonstrate how to clean the horn, remove the cartilage and chemically prepare it for “instrument” use. A display of horns from around the world and various animal heads aid in showcasing the Shofar’s meaning, history, shapes, and sounds. Every child have the opportunity to test the different Shofars themselves.
