On October 24, 2006, the Jewish Children's Museum celebrated a magnificent Siyum and Hachnosat Sefer Torah. A procession of joyous men, women and children accompanied the newly-created Torah scroll to its home – the Jewish Children's Museum.

An ordinary museum may seem an unfitting home for a Torah, whose purpose is for learning, not viewing, the Jewish Children's Museum's role as an education institution that teaches children about Jewish tradition in fun and innovative ways will use the Torah for hands-on lessons in Torah making, writing, reading, and learning.

The Torah was dedicated by the Hoyda family in memory of Mr. Serge Hoyda's parents, Leo and Lotte Hoyda, and in memory Ari Halberstam, the sixteen-year-old yeshiva student killed in a terrorist shooting on the Brooklyn Bridge in 1994, in whose memory the Museum was built.
