United Nations Day
A group of 40 staffers and diplomats from the United Nations along with international business people took a Sunday afternoon off for a special tour of the Jewish Children’s Museum.
The event was organized by Mr. Amir Dossal, the Executive Director of the UN Office for Partnerships (pictured) along with Ms. Gloria Starr-Kins, Senior UN Correspondent. Amir is the UN's Chief Liaison for Ted Turner's $1 billion donation for UN causes, which involves over 450 programs and projects in children’s health, women and population, climate change and biodiversity.
Among the visitors was Dr. Palitha Kohona, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the UN (pictured), along with prominent supporters of the museum.
One of the visitors marveled, “This is the first and only museum I have been to that encourages visitors to touch! The interactivity is just phenomenal!” The group enjoyed a guided tour through the interactive exhibits and even competed in one of the game shows.
This initial visit led to more visits from various ambassadors, such as the UN Ukrainian ambassador Yuriy A. Sergeyev, who came as part of a UN collaborative effort to learn more about the Jewish tradition. Sergeyev said that the museum had a lesson for everyone. “The Jewish lessons [here] are inspirational,” he said. “But children from any country or background can be taught a message from here.”
